Data centres set to benefit from innovative and flexible cooling solution
Eaton-Williams, a leading manufacturer in the process cooling, air conditioning and humidification industry has unveiled a range of products targeted at the growing blade server and data room cooling markets.
“We have been working closely with the IT industry’s leading companies including IBM, USystems and Intel to develop a complete range of products and turnkey solutions to tackle the burgeoning heat problems faced in data centres.” Says Mark Luxford, Eaton-Williams’ New Technologies Executive.
Floor space in data and server rooms is at a premium and driving the demand for packaging densities of computer systems. As processor capacity increases, a natural consequence is greater heat generation.
The advances of computing power and technologies are putting greater demands on traditional temperature control systems. Some companies are tackling the problem by reducing the amount of equipment housed in racks or reducing the number of racks used in each room. This presents Data Centre Managers with a dilemma, how to run an efficient data centre with low operation costs, whilst maximising space and overcoming heat problems.
As no one product can provide the solution, Eaton-Williams has developed a range of products at rack and room level that when combined can address these issues and satisfy the growing demand for precision cooling for blade servers, and critical data room equipment.
The Eaton-Williams Cooling IT portfolio includes server cabinets/rear door heat exchangers, cooling distribution units, CRAC units, chillers, grilles and diffusers, all backed up with a comprehensive installation, project management, service and maintenance package for optimum operating efficiency.
The Products
Server Cabinets/Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) are designed to provide an environment for high heat density blade servers and IT equipment and can remove up to 30kW of heat at source, rejecting it to water rather than the room.
The Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) is designed to provide cooling water, close controlled and above dew point for up to six rear door heat exchangers. It is capable of up to 150kW cooling capacity.
CDU Module is a 20kW self-contained version of the CDU. It can provide cooling water above dew point to one or two rear door heat exchangers and slides into a standard 19” rack (6u high) whilst maintaining all the features of the larger unit.
The Modular CDU system provides connectivity for up to six CDU Modules during initial install whilst allowing the CDU modules and RDHx’s to be added as the heat loads increase and the data centre grows.
The DRU (CRAC) air conditioning units are suitable for high density load areas where a large cooling duty is required. Units are available with 80, 100 or 120kW cooling capacities and available with chilled water, DX, DX with water-cooled condenser and glycol free cooling configurations.
The IPAC floor standing (CRAC Unit) is an air conditioning unit available in either chilled water or DX cooling configurations. Units can be supplied with either an upflow or a downflow air pattern with up to 80kW of cooling capability.
Energy Efficient chillers up to a capacity of 600kW with full run/standby (N+1) capability can be offered. A factory-fitted free cooling capability qualifies for ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance) under the Carbon Trust Scheme.
All of these products are specifically designed for high spec IT environments with maximum performance and reliability in mind. N+1 redundancy is a standard, built in feature of the products which have been developed in partnership with global blue chip IT equipment providers.
In addition, Eaton-Williams can provide an extensive range of standard grilles and diffusers with the option of customised designs including floor grilles for data centres.
Comprehensive service and maintenance and M&E Services provides 24/7 support. With a national network of mobile engineers or by supplying residential engineers, Eaton-Williams can maximise operating efficiency. For a complete package, project design, installation, commissioning, refurbishment and refrigerant recovery are also available.
Whether customers require individual products, a customised system or a complete turnkey solution, Eaton-Williams Cooling IT is well placed to meet all a customers’ needs.
