Colman’s mini adventure
Colman in partnership with D&B BMA Engineering Services has secured the contract to provide linear slot, nozzle and drum jet diffusers for the MINI’s flagship showroom on London’s Park Lane. All the products have been finished in black to co-ordinate with the showroom’s interior.
“The Mini showroom in keeping with the brand had tight design criteria
which dictated the type of terminal devices that could be used to achieve the
desired air throws” comments Ben Barter, of D&B BMA Engineering Services.
The vast open plan design required three types of diffuser to achieve the required air distribution. Colman’s linear slot diffusers were sited on the sidewalls with a number of ceiling mounted ‘N’ Series nozzle diffusers.
The ‘N’ Series is built up from individual 30mm diameter circular nozzles which can be used in multiples to provide a tailored solution. Each nozzle emits an air stream at approximately 30° to the surface on which they are mounted. Each individual nozzle can be swivelled through 360°. This unique design enables total flexibility and a virtually infinite number of air distribution patterns.
“Functionality combined with aesthetic looks are often crucial in the selection and specification process,” says Richard Wharton, General Manager of Colman.
The design of the nozzles also prevents the distribution pattern from affecting pressure drops (?P), or noise level. Readjustment of the pattern can therefore be made whenever necessary without affecting any of these parameters.
When the layout of a room is altered and requires a change in the direction of airflow, the nozzles can be easily and rapidly changed using a lightweight tool, to the desired throw.
In addition several drum jet diffusers were used. Drum jet diffusers are high capacity terminals designed for applications that require a long jet throw and are ideally suited for exposed duct or side-wall installations. The drum and guide vanes can be adjusted to give full panoramic spread with directional control, enabling the diffuser to be set up for optimum conditions in heating and cooling modes. Drum jet diffusers are very flexible and fully adjustable providing an air-path up to 90°.
The diffuser drum and frame are robustly built from extruded aluminium and incorporate brush strips to provide a low friction airtight seal.
Black was specified for all the terminal devices to co-ordinate with the showroom’s chic interior.
Building on the success of the Park Lane refurbishment, both Colman and BMA Engineering Services Ltd have received further orders to supply and install air distribution products in other BMW showrooms.
