Energy efficient humidifiers specified in new hospital wing
Energy saving humidifiers manufactured by Vapac Humidity Control have been installed at the Garrett Andersen Centre a new purpose-built treatment centre for the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust.
Working in close cooperation with the Dodd Group who carried out the installation, Vapac supplied a total of seven GF40 gas fired humidifiers servicing the operating theatres and recovery areas.
Named after the Suffolk-born Elizabeth Garret Andersen, the Garrett Andersen opened its doors earlier this year. The £26 million pound centre built across four floors is providing a new home to departments for accident and emergency, critical care, day surgery and elective surgery.
There were two major reasons why Vapac’s gas fired units were selected as the most appropriate solution. Firstly the hospital has no central steam generating plant. Secondly, standard electrode boilers for the size of application would have resulted in many units and higher electricity costs. Hard water was also an issue.
By taking advantages of the advances in technology, Vapac’s units offer a high efficiency burner and heat exchanger, combined with low flue temperatures and addresses environmental issues without compromising technological benefits, performance and reliability.
There are 17 models in the range and each is capable of operating with a range of water qualities from raw mains to de-mineralised or de-ionised water and provides an energy efficient alternative.
All units conform to all European gas regulations and each humidifier is supplied pre-set for two bands of European gases (E and LL). Their design delivers low NOx levels of 36ppm at maximum output and an efficiency level of 95.6% NET at maximum capacity has been achieved with the burner and heat exchanger design.
